What to Expect During Your Fiber Internet Installation Process

Getting fiber internet installed at your home is a straightforward process, but it does involve a few important steps to ensure your connection is safe, reliable, and built correctly. At BTC, our goal is to make the installation experience as smooth and transparent as possible.

Below is a simple breakdown of how the process works and how long it typically takes.

Step 1: Order Placement and Network Planning

After you place your order, our engineering team reviews your location and plans the best route to connect our fiber network to your home.

At this stage, we determine whether your fiber line will be installed:

  • Underground (buried)
  • Overhead (aerial)

Each home is different, and the method depends on existing utilities and local conditions.

Step 2: Utility Locates (If Underground)

If your service requires an underground installation, a utility locate must be completed before digging begins. This ensures all existing utility lines are properly marked to avoid damage.

Underground installations typically take at least 3 additional days due to this safety step.

Step 3: Outside Fiber Installation and Splicing

Once planning and locates are complete, our construction and splicing teams install the fiber line to your home.

This includes:

  • Running fiber from the main network to your residence
  • Completing splicing work to activate the line
  • Testing the connection outside your home

You do not need to be home during this step.

Step 4: In-Home Installation Appointment

After the outside work is finished, a BTC team member will contact you to schedule your in-home installation.

During this visit:

  • We bring service inside your home
  • Install and configure your equipment
  • Connect your devices to the network

You will need to be home for this appointment.

How Long Does Installation Take?

The full installation process can take up to one month from the time your order is placed.

Timing may vary depending on:

  • Weather conditions
  • Workload and demand in your area
  • Type of installation required (buried vs. aerial)
